The "Hotness"of the OC is based on the capsaicin content of the Oleoresin Capsicum, the active ingredient of the OC. This is measured as a SHU (Scoville Heat Unit) rating to describe the hotness of the capsaicin. Pure Capsaicin has a tremendous 15 million SHU! A typical bell pepper has an SHU rating of zero (0).
